We'll hit the trails to explore the remote mountains of central Nevada and find adventure and picture perfect views.
In the evening, we'll gather around the campfire to swap stories and laughs under some of the darkest skies in the country.
This is a weekend for making connections with each other and our horses. Each day we will hone our backcountry skills in the classroom and on the trail. We'll also enjoy delicious meals, camaraderie, and free time to reflect. You'll leave feeling even more confident to head out and have trail adventures!
Arrive at basecamp, settle in, and meet the guides. After a ranch tour and an overview of the weekend, enjoy a hearty meal, evening entertainment, and cocktails by the campfire.
After a delicious breakfast we'll get right to learning, with an Ultralight Packing Clinic on the ins and outs of adventuring in the backcountry without a packhorse.
Lunch and then saddle up for a 10+ mile ride through the mountains with stunning views and solitude. After we get back to camp, we'll enjoy dinner, tales from the trail, and the stars overhead.
Another tasty breakfast, followed by more crucial trail skills. We'll go over map reading, equine first aid, wild animals, and more.
Eat a good lunch and then we hit the trail again for another 10+ mile ride, this time through the range to find a hidden spring. Back at camp we'll have another filling meal and campfire camaraderie.
We share one last breakfast and say our goodbyes before heading home with a renewed sense of adventure!
The historic Martin Ranch is nestled in the Monitor Range, between Austin and Eureka, Nevada. This remote and private basecamp offers unparalleled solitude and access to stunning high desert forests and backcountry trails. The ranch features a main house, bunkhouse, grassy meadows, and a creek. There are no neighbors except the wild horses, deer, and elk.
The ranch is located off Highway 50, between Austin and Eureka, Nevada. It is approximately five hours east of Reno, 2.5 hours west of Ely, and 6 hours north of Las Vegas.
Samantha is the founder of the Nevada Discovery Ride and a member of the Long Riders' Guild, an international association of equestrian explorers. She has completed three solo rides across and around Nevada.
Niki specializes in ultralight horse packing and is the founder of Adventure Equine. She has significant miles on the Pacific Crest Trail, John Muir Trail and throughout the PNW. She is also a vet tech and equine body worker.
